Description: full bleed Event Ad Promoting Fund Raising for Local Charity
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): Using Microsoft Word, a scanner, and an issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine (Oct 2014), I whipped out this ad this week. I tried to exemplify gestalt with the colors and lines, and to show a good example of arrangement with my boxes. It took a lot of concentration and focus to get the picture to render correctly, as things would disappear behind others at times, but I finally arranged everything, and got it ready. Also with color scheme, seeing as this event is about raising money for single-parent families, I chose a child-friendly color scheme, and made it a little flat. I based it on the yellow behind the childs right arm at first, and grew it from there.
Message: Donate to a charity supporting single-parent families in the community, and be eligible to register for cooking classes from great U.S. Chefs.
Audience: Middle-to-Upper Class Women, specifically Mothers.
Color scheme and color names: I used a triadic/primary color scheme. My colors don’t actually have names, but they have associated code, according to colorhexa.com. Blue is: #9cc2e5. Yellow is: #e1ed3f. Red is: #ff9966 (also known as Atomic tangerine)
Top Thing Learned: Get things done on time, because when the internet is down on campus, it makes it really hard to come up with a color scheme. Also, Word isn’t the first thing I would go to for designing, but I can use it now, and that’s good to know. Word 2016 is seriously lacking in the design capabilities, even when compared to Word 2013. Very frustrating, yes. But like I said, I could do it now.

I love the colors in your ad! They’re fun and seem very appropriate for the event. I like how you also added borders to the text and image. They really help organize the ad. It’s kind of cool; Olivia also created something centered around children. Here’s a link to her blog. https://oliviaaanderson.wordpress.com/category/design/
What an awesome ad! I really like your font choice, it looks nice. I’m also liking your use of white space and your positioning of the text boxes. It looks very neat but also bright and appealing. Good work.
